The red-tailed hawk was released Wednesday morning at the San Francisco Botannical Gardens and promptly perched itself onto a tree to re-acquaint itself with the area.
The young bird spent 10 days rehabilitating at the Wild Rescue Center in East San Jose. The hawk popped the nail off its own head by banging it against a cage after it was capture.
The hawk's rescuers expect it to thrive at the park.
