The card room's owners have been trying to get a license to open Casino M8trix since last year.
San Jose Police Chief Chris Moore said Monday he will make a decision by the end of the week.
The owners say if it's approved, they hope to open by the end of the month. They plan to shut down the existing Garden City Casino when that happens.
