Police say 37-year-old Scott Foster was spotted walking off campus towards El Camino, still in handcuffs, and was taken into custody without incident shortly before 6 a.m.
Foster was initially arrested on campus around 1:30 a.m. for a domestic violence incident in which he had been pulling his girlfriend's hair. After his arrest he was placed in the back of a squad car but managed somehow to escape the car and get away. Police say they're investigating how that happened.
Police say Foster had been previously arrested for alcohol and drugs, and that he had been involved in violent incidents in the past. He's a resident of the Stanford campus. While not an employee himself, he is the son of a Stanford employee.
