Obama for President headquarters remained boarded up Saturday after vandals hurled rocks and bricks at the huge front windows. Police say a group of about 200 people were part of Friday night's protest. They say it included factions of Occupy Oakland.
It's not exactly clear by the Obama for President headquarters was specifically targeted, but demonstrators at Friday night's art event, called Art Murmur, say they were protesting against the permitting process.
Police attending Saturday's Art & Soul Festival say they hope the fun for the fair is not overshadowed by the destruction of property by demonstrators.
"I feel like it was kind of unsmart to go ahead and start destroying windows and breaking stuff because it's like you're going to get yourself in trouble because in reality, all you gotta do, is use your voice," San Leandro resident Roderick Spikes said.
Oakland resident Leah Rescate adds, "That's something that shouldn't happen, but today is a brand new day and this is something to enjoy and celebrate life."
The Art & Soul Festival continues through Sunday and is slated to have more than 50 musical acts on five stages that sprawl through several Oakland city blocks. This is the 12th year of this event.
