It was called "Beyond Wonderland," it was anything but sleep land for people who live anywhere within hearing distance. The music was in a tent in the south parking lot but the sound traveled. It began at 6 p.m. and the music continued until 2 a.m.
"It was incredible; the problem is no one was notified and that would have been just a common courtesy because it was the loudest I've ever heard it," Alameda resident David Harris said.
The music brought out thousands of phone calls complaining about the noise. The calls so overwhelmed San Leandro police, they put out a bulletin asking people to stop calling 911 and call Oakland Police.
The producer, Insomniac of southern California has been putting on these shows since 1993. It was always scheduled to go until 2 a.m. There were adjustments made during an afternoon sound check but apparently it was not enough.
The city of Oakland and the coliseum authority are apologizing for the discomfort and inconvenience to area residents and promising to work with nearby cities in planning future musical events.
