Grocery Outlet stores coming to SF neighborhoods

SAN FRANCISCO

The grocery store chain, headquartered in Berkeley, executed the lease agreements earlier this month and is holding a midday news conference Wednesday with Supervisor Eric Mar to mark the occasion, company spokesman Charles Goodyear said.

The stores are expected to open by next summer or fall, Goodyear said.

Up to 70 employees will be hired at the two stores, which will be located at 6333 Geary Blvd. and 2630 Bayshore Blvd., according to Goodyear.

Mar said in a statement that Grocery Outlet "offers San Franciscans the healthy and affordable food choices I have been advocating for."

Supervisor Malia Cohen, whose district includes Visitacion Valley, said that neighborhood "has been working for years to attract and sustain a grocery store."

Cohen said Visitacion Valley "will benefit greatly from an anchor grocery store that can provide fresh, healthy food and complement our small neighborhood markets."

Grocery Outlet currently has 185 stores in six Western states as well as Pennsylvania.
