A Honda with five people inside struck a guard rail and a flag pole and then flipped over. The 21-year-old driver was killed and 12-year-old and 16-year-old brothers, who were in the backseat, were also killed. Their 18-year-old brother is at the hospital with critical injuries.
The CHP said drugs and alcohol don't appear to be a factor in the crash.
"We are not sure exactly why the collision occurred. We are looking for the publics' help. If anyone saw anything at the time of the collision, around 9:45 p.m., we encourage them to call the Redwood City CHP and give us any information. If they saw maybe the vehicle speeding, anything else related to that collision, so that we can piece together what happened," said California Highway Patrol Ofc. Curtis Glace.
The CHP also wants to know where the vehicle was coming from last night.
A passenger riding in the front seat was not hurt.
Anyone who may have witnessed the crash is asked to call the CHP Redwood City area office at (650) 369-6261.
