NAACP: Oakland violence must end, art walk should continue

OAKLAND, Calif.

Kiante Campbell, 18, was killed and three others injured at the First Friday Art Walk Festival two weeks ago.

On Thursday, the president of the NAACP's Oakland chapter, George Holland, said the community has to come together to end violence, but he also said the solution should not mean ending public activities.

"We believe that the First Friday event should continue. You should not let a small group of persons prevent public celebrations, public events," said Holland.

Next month's First Friday event will end earlier in the evening. A funeral for Campbell will be held on Friday at 1 p.m. in Oakland's Chapel of the Chimes.
