The fire, which was reported to the California Highway Patrol around 3:49 p.m., started near eastbound Interstate 80 between Willow Avenue and Cummings Skyway, according to Brian Lowry, a battalion chief with the Pinole Fire Department.
Responding firefighters found a fire of about half an acre burning up a steep slope of grass and brush past Cummings Skyway, Lowry said.
Firefighters called a second alarm for greater assistance, including Cal Fire aircraft and an East Bay Regional Parks District helicopter.
Gusts of wind of around 15 mph pushed the fire toward Crockett, presenting some risk to structures in the area of Rose Street and Fifth Avenue in Crockett, but the flames were contained within about two hours before they reached structures, Lowry said.
There were no injuries. The fire's cause remains under investigation.
Multiple agencies responded to the fire, which was ultimately handed over to Cal Fire's jurisdiction, Lowry said.
