Fremont roadway closed after car strikes utility pole

FREMONT, Calif.

The 1:55 p.m. crash on Alvarado Boulevard sheared off a power pole at Lowry Road, causing live wires to come down on the roadway and knocking out power to around 3,440 customers, PG&E spokesman J.D. Guidi said.

PG&E had restored power to around 1,880 customers by shortly before 4 p.m., but around 1,560 remained without power, according to PG&E.

Emergency responders blocked Alvarado Boulevard after the crash while at least one occupant in the vehicle was extracted, according to Fremont police.

Motorists are advised to avoid the area.
