The Accrediting Commission for Community and Junior Colleges is voting in the Marriott Hotel in Burlingame to decide if the school will be forced to shut down.
The college's accreditation is on the line because of how the school has managed its finances, academic evaluations and data collection.
"We think they are not acting in the interest of the students, faculty or institution. City College has a few problems, but they have been pretty much corrected. Most of them were financial because we lost over $50 million in funding in a three year period," said CCSF professor Roger Scott.
While some consider it unlikely that college would close, CCSF could face sanctions for the way it has managed its finances and staff.
City College is California's largest public school and has 2,600 employees. Nineteen members of the commission will be making the decision in private. The results will not be announced until next month.
