The parks service will begin tearing out parking lots, roads and even the gift shop from Mariposa Grove as early as next summer.
The grove is home to Yosemite's largest collection of big trees.
The goal is to help the old trees survive and thrive for future generations of park visitors.
The project will cost $24 million.
