The annual grocery bag giveaway began at 7:30 a.m. at the charity's Tenderloin headquarters. Several blocks were closed because the lines were so long, with thousands of recipients and 700 volunteers.
Each bag contains a turkey or chicken along with potatoes, bread, pasta, rice, beans and vegetables -- everything that's needed to prepare a home-cooked holiday meal.
Another 700 bags will be delivered Thursday to those who can't leave home.
