Tesla CEO Elon Musk confirmed on Bloomberg TV that he held talks with Apple's acquisition people last year.
Analysts say that's consistent with the late Steve Jobs' vision of one day designing an iCar to go along with its iPhones, iPads, and other devices.
It could put Apple in a better position to compete with Google and its self-driving car technology.
Musk says any merger or acquisition involving Apple is unlikely.
