Honor student Rachel Canning, 18, is suing her mom and dad for financial support. She says they refuse to pay for her private high school education and college next fall. She claims her parents kicked her out of the house when she turned 18 in October.
Canning's parents say she left because she didn't want to follow rules like curfew or doing chores. Her father Sean, a former police chief, says this ordeal is tearing his family apart.
"We'd be whole and healed as a family if she was back home. I think she's being enabled and is being steered down the wrong path, and it's killing us," he said.
The teen is reportedly living with a friend. Tuesday's hearing will be the first time she's seen her family in months.
