His past is as colorful as his costume. Sandler was arrested in New York for going on an anti-Semitic rant and harassing people. He admits he once ran a pornographic website and tried to extort $2 million from the Girl Scouts.
Fisherman's Wharf merchants are uneasy about him. They fear he attracts the wrong people.
"Whoever wants to take a picture with me, I will take a picture," Sandler said. "I do not discriminate against any person. If they want to take a picture with me I take one. I've done nothing wrong to anybody here."
Sandler says he is the victim of a smear campaign and says he is not a threat to anyone.
He was cited by police on Sunday for aggressive panhandling.
