Blind man sets out on a quest for baseball dreams

DYERSVILLE, IA -- A blind baseball fan found the strike zone on opening day at the Field of Dreams.

Robert Smith threw out the first pitch and sang the National Anthem at the field which was made famous by the Kevin Costner movie, ABC affiliate KCRG-TV reports.

Smith is hoping to become the first blind person to throw out the first pitch and sing the National Anthem at every major and minor league stadium in the country.

Smith runs an organization dedicated to performing random acts of kindness. He calls it The Little Green Apple Project after a well-known song, "Little Green Apples," by his father, O.C. Smith.

He says he wants to inspire other people with disabilities to show them that their disability is not an obstacle if they have determination and a dream.

"What I want to bring back is to get out there and throw that ball. Smell that fresh air," he said. "Feel the sunshine. If a blind guy can do, come on guys, you can do it."
