WEST HOLLYWOOD, Calif. -- It's been nearly three years since the Boston Marathon bombing killed three people and injured nearly 300 others. Now, one of the victims who lost her foot in the attack is working to run in this year's marathon.

"I heard a giant blast behind me and then all of a sudden I was covering my eyes and my ears and I was on the ground," Haslet-Davis said.

She remembers not being in pain even as she saw what happened to her body.

"I looked down and could see that my foot was gone immediately at that moment," she recalled.

Hearing the news at the hospital was not easy to accept for a young woman living her dream as a full-time professional dancer.

She went through dark moments, but is now an inspiration speaker and still a ballroom dancer. Haslet-Davis is also gearing up to run her first marathon ever - the Boston Marathon.

"I pushed myself and I was able to do it and I knew that I wanted to run for 'Limbs for Life' because I've been working with them for a couple of years now," she said.

Haslet-Davis is leading a team to raise money for the group, which helps amputees, and they held a fundraiser at SoulCycle in West Hollywood on Tuesday.

"They've been instrumental in showing me what the struggle is for amputees and how many people are on waiting lists to get legs," Haslet-Davis said. "You can donate a lot or a little but either way you are making a huge dent in the lives of amputees."
