SAN FRANCSICO (KGO) -- When wrapping packages two things are essential: wrapping paper and ribbon. Paper can be found find just about anywhere and same with ribbon.
In the Bay Area people don't have to settle for standard run of the mill ribbon. There are fewer than 10 ribbon stores in the whole world and one of them is in San Francisco.
Tucked away on Sacramento Street in San Francisco is The Ribbonerie, and the store has all the others beat when it comes to ribbon.
The store's proprietor Paulette Knight, knows a thing or two about ribbon. She's been selling it for more than 30 years.
"It is tiny fabrics, if you will. It's just miniature fabrics that are used as an embellishment," Knight said.
At The Ribbonerie, ribbon is still sold the old fashion way, a yard at a time. The cost ranges anywhere from 10 cents to $48 a yard.
Beverly Day discovered The Ribbonerie just before Thanksgiving.
Michael Finney: "Have you ever seen a selection like this?"
Beverly Day: "No, nowhere. All the big box chains, things like that, nothing, nothing like this."
Julia Henderson and her mom Lisa, on the other hand, have been coming to The Ribbonerie for years.
"I like it. There are so many ribbons and it is so pretty," Julia Henderson said.
"It is a holiday tradition for us. I have two daughters and they like fancy Christmas dresses that I make every year, so we come here to get the sashes," Lisa Henderson said.
"I absolutely love what I do. I never get tired of the ooohs and aahs," Knight said.
This is the big time of year for the store, but ribbon is in demand year-round.
