Consumer Reports: Don't spray your kids with sunscreen

Don't spray your kids -- that's the advice Consumer Reports is giving to parents using spray sunscreen this summer.

The FDA is investigating potential health risks associated with kids breathing in the spray-on lotion.

There haven't been any medical reports of a problem, but until more studies are done, doctors say you need to be careful about applying sunscreen.

"You never want to spray it near their face, so put it on your hands and rub it on their face. I think it's a good idea to put it on before they're out at the pool or the beach or where their activity is, so you can control it more and reapply it often," ABC Chief Health and Medical editor Richard Besser, M.D. said.

Doctors say spray sunscreen should be re-applied as often as traditional lotions. Never apply it in the wind, because there's no way to control where it lands.
