Dog rescued by Virginia firefighters after falling into frozen lake

First responders rescued a dog after it had fallen through a frozen lake.

A dog is now safe and sound after being saved by first responders after falling into a frozen lake.

When Angel the dog fell through thin ice on Lake Thoreau in Reston, Va. on Feb 17, members of the Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department came to the rescue, according to their blog. Wearing ice commander suits, the responders carried were able to retrieve the 75-pound dog from the lake, and return it to its owner without injury.

The dramatic rescue was captured on video by Captain Schellhammer and uploaded to the department's Facebook page, where it's been viewed over 470,000 times.

"Bless you all for rescuing this dog! True heroes!!" commented one Facebook user.

"What a great job," commented another. "The dog was so scared and they handled situation well!"
