PALO ALTO, Calif. -- A man was struck and killed by a suspected drunk driver in Palo Alto Monday morning, police said.
The crash was reported around 6:15 a.m. in the 2000 block of East Bayshore Boulevard.
Officers responded and found the pedestrian dead in the roadway and the driver of a Nissan Maxima stopped at the scene, police said.
Investigators determined the Nissan was traveling south on East Bayshore Road when it left the roadway, struck a power pole, then rolled over and came to rest in the roadway. Police have not determined where exactly the pedestrian was when the car struck him.
Officers placed the driver, a man in his late teens, under arrest on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs, police said. The name of the driver was not immediately being released by police.
The Santa Clara County medical examiner's office will release the name of the pedestrian once his next-of-kin is notified of the death.
