San Jose City Council grants landmark status to Century 21 Dome Theater

SAN JOSE, Calif. (KGO) -- The San Jose City Council has voted to designate the Century 21 Dome Theater as a city landmark.

The 50-year old building was one of the first dome theaters in the nation. Landmark status doesn't necessarily preserve the dome, but it makes it harder for the owner to tear it down. The theater has been closed since March.

The state is considering whether to declare the theater a national historic landmark.
