Suspects assault Fremont grandmother at home babysitting
A man found his wife tied up with duct tape after a home invasion burglary occurred while the woman was babysitting their grandchild.

FREMONT, Calif. (KGO) -- After a weekend home invasion that turned into a sexual assault, there's been another home invasion in Fremont. This time, the suspects assaulted a grandmother while she was babysitting her grandchild.

When the call came in, police in Fremont were told it was a crime in progress, so they arrived in force with guns drawn. At the same time, the victim's husband, who had also been notified, drove up and ran to the house telling them not to shoot.

"So when I called her, I heard on the phone and she say, 'huhhhh' something like that, and I stop my work," the victim's husband, Phu Phan, said.

After receiving a call from his 54-year-old wife in distress Phu found her lying in the doorway of their home.

"My wife was right here... with the duct tape [covering her mouth]," Phu said.

She had passed out and could barely breathe through the tape. There was only one other person at the home, their 9-month-old granddaughter, Haley. The baby was at home asleep in a hammock during the robbery, which took place around 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

"I just feel unsafe. I feel upset, I feel afraid. I feel for my mother," the victim's daughter, Terri Phan, said.

Terri said her mother was cooking when two men, entered the house from the back door and put a gun to her head. They stole designer hand bags and some personal items, but no cash. "We don't carry cash in this house. We know that Asians are targeted and known for carrying a lot of cash, and we understand that. We don't do that."

Both suspects wore hats and covered their faces, but they're believed to be Asian men, both about 5'10" tall and between 30-35 years of age.

"Our detectives are still working on this case and we desperately want to find the suspects responsible for committing this crime in our community," Fremont Police spokesperson Geneva Bosques said.

Now, police are asking residents in the Ardenwood neighborhood to examine their surveillance video for any signs of these suspects.
