SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) -- Kate Steinle's family has launched a fundraiser ahead of what would have been her 35th birthday. The family is hoping to raise $3,500 to fund a grant for a challenged athlete by December 13.
TIMELINE: How the Kate Steinle case unfolded
The grant is for the Challenged Athlete Foundation which supports people with physical challenges. Steinle was shot and killed at Pier 14 in 2015.
Just last week, a San Francisco jury acquitted the man who was charged with her death.
