Trump party mood shifts

The vibe at Trump's watch party has significantly shifted to a livelier mood in the last hour.

CNN is playing on the TV screen, and as returns started rolling in showing Trump with a lead in battleground states, the campaign briefly turned off the news and started playing a supercut video of Trump dancing while YMCA was blasting.

People were mimicking Trump's dancing, bouncing around as we heard multiple cheers throughout the convention ballroom.

Trump projected to win 3 Nebraska electoral votes

ABC News projects that Trump will three of Nebraska's five electoral votes -- two from the statewide count, and one from the 3rd District. The 2nd Congressional District, which covers the Omaha area, hasn't been projected yet, and Harris has a much better shot at winning its one electoral vote.

Trump will win battleground North Carolina

ABC News is projecting that Trump is expecting to win North Carolina's 16 electoral votes. This is one of several swing states to watch tonight, as it shifted from a "lean Republican" to a "toss-up" state after Harris joined the presidential race.

The state has been competitive in presidential years past. In 2016, Trump narrowly won North Carolina by roughly four percentage points. But in 2020, the former president's margin narrowed to just 1 percentage point. As Election Day votes continue to trickle in, and with 89% of the expected vote in, Trump leads Harris, 51% to 48%.

Harris' best path is through the 'Blue Wall'

It is increasingly looking like Harris' best -- and perhaps only -- path to 270 electoral votes is by winning the three "Blue Wall" states: Wisconsin, Michigan and Pennsylvania. These states are so named because they voted for Democrats in every presidential election from 1992 to 2012, helping give Democrats a bulwark in the Electoral College. But Trump flipped them in 2016, and ever since, they have been near-essential for Democrats in order to win.

Going into Election Day, surveys indicated that, among the seven main swing states, Harris was polling the best in these three states. She would have liked to have won some of the Sun Belt states, sure, but the northern battlegrounds were more fertile ground. As things stand right now in those states, more votes have been counted for Trump than for Harris, but late-counted ballots are expected to be more Democratic, so they are probably still her best bet to win.
