Dramatic video of snorkeler rescue
Daren Jenner recorded the dramatic rescue of a struggling snorkeler with his GoPro camera

When body-surfer Daren Jenner strapped a video camera to his hand, he was probably expecting to capture a beautiful day relaxing near the Poipu Reef in Hawaii.

What he got was even more incredible.

Jenner heard calls for help. He followed the sound and he came upon a snorkeler who seemed to be in distress. He quickly realized that the man was too exhausted to swim back to shore and sprang into action.

He pulled the man back to safety, capturing the whole thing on the camera that was still strapped to him.

Jenner, a retired paramedic and volunteer lifeguard, is now using the rescue to remind tourists to be cautious anytime they're out in the ocean.

"If you're not familiar with the ocean, you should definitely try to go in a lifeguarded area," he told ABC News. "If you go in a non-lifeguarded area, you need to be very careful that you don't go out too far."

This isn't the first time Jenner's heroic actions have gotten notice. Back when he was a paramedic, he arrived on the scene of a man who had gone 30 minutes without a pulse but ended up saving his life.

As for his most recent rescue, you can see at the end of Jenner's footage that the man will be all right. When they get to shore, he's clearly exhausted, but is able to walk around.

Despite it all, Jenner told ABC News, he doesn't consider himself a hero.

"The full-time lifeguards, the rescue swimmers from the Coast Guard, those are heroes all right. I'm just a body-surfer."
