FREMONT, Calif. (KGO) -- Highway 84 in the East Bay has re-opened after a mudslide shut it down between Fremont and Sunol for nearly an hour during the Wednesday morning commute.
It's not the first slide in that area the storms and it may not be the last.
This slide happened just after 8 a.m. during the commute. They had to shut down Niles Canyon Road between Fremont and Sunol in both directions. This is the second time it has happened this week. They also had a slide and a shut down on Monday. Commuters say it can definitely be a huge inconvenience.
"It closes the commute route to Pleasanton and the 680 freeway, so it's a little difficult to commute to work," said commuter Ankit Patel.
"It's just part of life. I know they try to do the best they can to prevent it, but if it rains you just don't go on it," said commuter Cathleen Hefner.
The CHP says if you can avoid windy canyon roads in the county right now. The hillsides are wet and slides happen every year at this time during these rainy conditions.
No one was hurt in the slide and no cars were damaged, but it did create a back up. The CHP re-opened it just before 9:00 a.m.
