SANTA ROSA, Calif. -- A Santa Rosa man was arrested early Friday morning on suspicion of stabbing a neighbor he thought was making sexual advances toward his wife, police said.

The stabbing at a residence in the 1500 block of Boston Court in Bennett Valley in southeast Santa Rosa was reported around 12:40 a.m. Police found the 29-year-old victim bleeding on the floor of his apartment when they arrived.

Police said the suspect, Brandon Cerda-Hidalgo, 21, was jealous because he believed the man who lived below his apartment was trying to seduce his wife. Hidalgo, armed with a knife, banged on the downstairs neighbor's door and stabbed him numerous times when the neighbor opened the door, police said.

Hidalgo's wife followed her husband and yelled at him to stop, police said. A neighbor heard the commotion, got the knife from Hidalgo and pulled him away from the victim.

Hidalgo was taken into custody and was booked in the Sonoma County Jail this morning on suspicion of attempted murder. He is being held under $1 million bail and is scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday afternoon in Sonoma County Superior Court.

The unidentified victim was taken to a hospital with life-threatening injuries, police said.
