Police make massive marijuana raid in San Jose

SAN JOSE (KGO) -- It's being called one of San Jose's biggest drug busts in recent history. Six people are now under arrest for their alleged involvement in an operation spanning multiple sites across the city.

Just after 7 a.m. Ruby Nowack woke up to noise coming from down the street.

"I heard a tremendous loud banging and some very loud men, saying let me in, let me in," said Nowack.

The home on the 700 block of Dubanski Drive was raided on Wednesday as part of Operation Green Sweep. It was there that San Jose police found six rooms full of marijuana being grown illegally.

"Very shocked, because this is such a peaceful little neighborhood. We just don't have crime here," said Nowack.

Police believe the two masterminds behind the operation are 39-year-old Dean Minh Trinh and 38-year-old Kim Chi Le -- both who were arrested at their home in South San Jose.

Police say a total of nearly 1,900 plants were seized from seven homes throughout the city all valued at more than $4 million.

Neighbors were absolutely stunned by the discovery.

"I never smelt a thing, I never seen anyone throw any parties here, or anything that would cause me for alarm," said Jeff Evert, San Jose resident.

And that was by design. San Jose Police Spokesman Albert Morales says all of the homes had a sophisticated lighting and ventilation system in place.

"They basically hollowed out the interior of the house, and put makeshift doors, paneling, dry wall," said Morales.
