SAN JOSE (KGO) -- Firefighters have knocked down a two-alarm fire in San Jose on Woodset Drive and Moorings Court.

Two adults and seven kids escaped safely from the home; the youngest child is 6-weeks-old and the oldest child is 15-years-old. The mother of the family heard the smoke alarm and woke up the rest of the family.

The fire started in the garage and at least two cars were destroyed. The home has suffered some serious damage.

"I was worried the fire would spread to other houses so I started knocking on doors. A gentleman was screaming and telling people to get out. I was just trying to make sure everyone was safe," said San Jose resident Erik Perez.

Two other homes sustained minor damage.

The Red Cross is assisting the family.
