Violent sex offender wanted for assault, attempted kidnapping arrested in San Jose

SAN JOSE, Calif. (KGO) -- Police arrested a man today accused of assaulting two women and attempting to kidnap them in San Jose on Sunday.

David Lee Russell, 56, was arrested in the area of Oakland Road and Charles Avenue in San Jose.

Russell was driving in a silver Hyundai Sonata. San Jose police received numerous tips from the community that ultimately resulted in Russell's arrest.

Russell will be booked into the Santa Clara County Jail on two counts of attempted kidnapping, two counts of attempted kidnapping to commit a sexual offense, two counts of assault with intent to a commit a felony, and an outstanding misdemeanor no bail warrant for DUI.

Police said the first attack occurred at Hamilton and Meridian avenues and the second attack occurred at Hillsdale and Narvaez avenues.
