OAKLAND, Calif. (KGO) -- Oakland's Highland Hospital received high honors Thursday, it is now home to a Level I trauma center.
Congresswoman Barbara Lee made the rounds at the hospital just ahead of the announcement. Highland is the only adult level one trauma center in the East Bay.
Lee, surrounded by doctors and nurses, thanked them for their work. But it was a Highland patient who got everyone's attention.
Hugo Campos collapsed at BART and was taken to the hospital. He needed a pacemaker-like device for his heart but he lost his insurance.
"I'm sure the Affordable Care Act has some room for improvement, it can be improved -- but if it weren't for the Affordable Care Act, I wouldn't be here today," Campos told ABC7 News.
The Alameda Health System and Highland Hospital expect to lose $94 million a year if Obamacare is repealed.
