WOLCOTT, CT -- A bizarre story out of Connecticut ended with a man in jail charged with arson and animal cruelty.

Wolcott Police say Alex Chambrella, 23, started a fire in the basement of a house before leaving the home in a relative's car, ABC affiliate WTNH-TV reports.

He didn't get very far.

"He smashed into his own car with the car he's in," Wolcott Police Chief Edward Stephens told WFSB-TV reports. "He (then) sideswipes another car, knocks the mirror off and drives as far as Coe Road and hits a sheet of ice (causing the car to overturn)."

Police say Chambrella then asked for a ride from someone passing by to an apartment complex where he banged on resident's doors. Chambrella threatened to punch one woman if she didn't let him inside, WTNH-TV reports.

When police got there and arrested him, they saw he was wearing only pajama pants and he told them he was reportedly "looking for his next wife."

"He was out there, telling me from everywhere and anywhere, telling me he's God," Stephens told WFSB-TV.

No one was hurt in the house fire, but a cat was killed. Police believe Chambrella may have been on drugs. He now faces charges of first-degree arson, cruelty to an animal and breach of peace.
