SAN JOSE -- A Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority light-rail train struck a pedestrian in East San Jose this morning, VTA officials said.

The collision happened near North Capitol Avenue and McKee Road, VTA spokeswoman Stacey Hendler Ross said at about 10:40 a.m.

Hendler Ross did not know exactly what time the collision occurred or if anyone on the train was injured.

The pedestrian was transported to a hospital but an update on the person's condition was not immediately available.

As part of standard protocol, the train operator will have to return to the agency's maintenance yard and undergo a screening that includes providing an account of the incident.

The Santa Clara County Sheriff's Office's transit patrol division will conduct an investigation into the collision, Hendler Ross said.

The agency is providing substitute bus service to passengers traveling between the Alum Rock and McKee stations because of train delays in the area, VTA officials said.
