Family of San Francisco shooting victim wants to focus on her life, legacy
SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) -- The father and brother of a woman who was shot and killed at San Francisco's Pier 14 spoke with ABC News on Sunday night. They have no comment on the jailhouse interview with their daughter's accused killer. They say they only want to focus on her life and legacy.
Jim Steinle was with his daughter Kate on Pier 14 the moment she was shot.
"We heard a pop and Kate turned and said, 'help me, dad.' Did all I could and here we are," he said.

He says he started CPR, a skill he'd learned in the military.
Another man stepped in to help.
Neither knew what had happened until they found the bullet wound in her back.
But that's not what this story is about. This story is about Kate's life.
"The reason I feel the need to do these interviews is to let everybody know how amazing my sister was," said the victim's brother, Brad Steinle. "She was a beautiful person inside and out."
Brad, who's expecting a baby girl, says he lost his best friend.
"I hope there's just a little piece of Kate's soul when I look in my baby (so) I can remember her," he said.
Brad and Jim say they'll miss everything about Kate.
"She's kind, thoughtful, spiritual, deep, caring, loving," said Jim.
Those qualities and Kate's spirit are helping them cope as they try to live by her example.
"We want the people in the world to know, and in San Francisco to know, that kindness is going to win this battle against evil and Kate would want that," said Jim.
The family has set up a GoFundMe account in memory of Kate Steinle.
