SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) -- As crowdsourcing-based air quality continues to plague the Bay Area, a Utah-based company is suddenly thrust into the spotlight.

Purple Air is a crowdsourcing-based air monitoring system-- with numbers that have been consistently more alarming than the federal government's.

There are about 600 of the sensors in the Bay Area monitoring the air quality.
