RICHMOND, Calif. (KGO) -- A Richmond police officer, who had four pounds of marijuana in his home, will not be charged with a crime.

Officer Joseph Avila got the pot from a delivery service that turned it in more than a year ago, but instead of booking it into evidence he took it home, with his supervisor's approval, to help train his drug-sniffing police dog.

On Thursday the Contra Costa County district attorney said what Avila did was not appropriate, but because there's no evidence he used or sold any of the pot, he won't be charged.
