SACRAMENTO, Calif. (KGO) -- Several bills that would slap new regulations on rideshare companies like Uber and Sidecar could move closer to passage by state lawmakers Thursday.
Officials from the on-demand car service companies have spent the week negotiating with lobbyists and lawmakers on new rules for insurance, background checks, drug testing and more.
A senate bill sponsored by Concord democrat Susan Bonilla that would set strict new insurance requirements must move out of committee Thursday in order to have any chance of passage before lawmakers go on recess. The rideshare industry has been fighting to block the bill.
Uber and Sidecar have criticized the bills for allegedly blocking innovation.
