SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) -- San Francisco police announced a major development involving three murder suspects, currently being held in Portland, for the killing of a popular yoga instructor in Marin County.

San Francisco police say 24-year-old Sean Michael Angold, 18-year-old Lila Scott Alligood and 23-year-old Morrison Haze Lampley are also responsible for the robbery and killing of 23-year-old Canadian tourist Audrey Carey.

Carey's badly beaten body was found the morning of Saturday, Oct. 3, in Golden Gate Park about half a mile from where stages were set up for the Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Music Festival.

San Francisco investigators say they flew to Portland and found Carey's property in the possession of the three suspects.

According to Carey's friends in Canada, she was visiting San Francisco for the first time on a backpacking trip. She is from a small town near Montreal, Quebec and they say she was taking a break from law school to tour through California for a month. Her parents have not spoken publicly, but told investigators she was on a solo trip.

On Thursday, all three suspects were interviewed by Marin County investigators in connection with the shooting death of 67-year-old Steve Carter. Investigators said they also recovered the gun used in the murder.

The three have waived extradition and will be brought back to Marin County to face charges.

The Marin County Sheriff's Office said none of the suspects has a known permanent address.

"All three people seem to be living off the radar," Sheriff's Lt. Doug Pittman said. "The best way I can describe it? They appear to be lost souls."

The trio was arrested the day before at a Portland dining hall, which serves meals to the homeless, and were found in possession of Carter's stolen car.

On Monday, Carter's body was found on a trail near Fairfax in Marin County. He was shot multiple times and was found still holding the leash of his wounded Doberman Pinscher when he was found. The dog was also shot, but is expected to recover.

Carter was staying with friends and caring for his cancer-stricken wife Lokita Carter.

The Carters launched the Ecstatic Living Institute in rural Middletown, California, about 16 years ago to teach tantra yoga to couples around the world. They held workshops nearby at the clothing-optional Harbin Hot Springs, which was destroyed last month in a wildfire. Last year, the couple turned the institute over to a former student.
