San Jose woman says video shows beloved cat stolen from yard

SAN JOSE, Calif. (KGO) -- A San Jose woman is devastated after her beloved 17-year-old cat was allegedly catnapped. She's calling it a cowardly crime.

If it wasn't for a security camera, many in the neighborhood would have thought that a coyote snatched the cat named GoGo. But it wasn't.

"And for the thief, you know what you did, please return our GoGo back," said Miriam Petrova.

It happened last Monday at about 9:30 p.m. GoGo had just eaten dinner and was lounging on the front lawn when a car stopped abruptly by the house. The alleged catnapper got out and approached GoGo, who tried to escape.

"It looked like somebody who knew what to do," Petrova said. "Because you have to grab the cat a certain way or he'll scratch you or bite you."

GoGo, slowed down by age, couldn't run fast enough. The catnapper snatched him.

"He was so sweet, he didn't hurt anybody, "said Petrova.

It's been a difficult week for GoGo's mom. Petrova put up posters all over the neighborhood. She filed a police report and visited animal shelters.

"They were looking at us like, 'Are you serious? What you talking about? We've never heard anything like that,'" Petrova said.

Missing cats have become common. So have coyote sightings. But stolen cats?

"It's hard to figure out what their motivation is for stealing another person's cat," said Captain Jay Terrado with San Jose Animal Services.

GoGo is a longhair orange mix. And he has a lion haircut.

As for a reward? That's out of the question.

"We shouldn't pay terrorists!" said Petrova. "And I think this looks like a terrorist act for me."
