Victim's family visits spot where SJ security guard was shot
Manny Zuniga's mother and siblings visited the spot where their loved one was shot Saturday night outside a liquor store.

EAST SAN JOSE, Calif. (KGO) -- A San Jose nightclub that lost its liquor license last year, also lost its security guards when they quit following the killing of a colleague.

Security guard Manny Zuniga was shot and killed Saturday outside Liquor 4 Less after a man stole a box of cigarillos from the counter.

ABC7 News has obtained surveillance video of the shooting. The footage shows a group of men walking into the store. They didn't stay long and all of them left. But then a man came back in, grabbed a display of cigarillos and ran out. He tripped and fell.

Zuniga was standing nearby and when he tried to pick up the box of cigarillos, he was shot and killed. He wasn't working for the liquor store.

Outside the liquor store, the memorial for Zuniga keeps growing. Tuesday night, the victim's family visited the spot where the 34-year-old died. Zuniga's mother and siblings didn't stay long. It was all just too emotional.

But many are hopeful that the surveillance video will help police. Family friend Sandra Morales hopes the person responsible will be caught so that "at least the family can know that the person that took their special person away is now serving for the crime they did."

Zuniga and eight others worked as security guards directly for BBOSS -- the restaurant and night club next door to the liquor store. Tuesday night there was no security at BBOSS since the entire security team quit Monday night. An independent source said the club's owner made insulting remarks that angered them.

BBOSS, under the same ownership, has been the focus of an investigation by California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control. BBOSS' license was suspended for 30 days in April of 2014 after investigators discovered employees were performing lewd acts, were allowing minors to consumer alcohol and allowing after-hours drinking.

Friends and strangers have been making cash contributions to help pay for funeral expenses. There is also a Gofundme website.

Zuniga's funeral will take place next Wednesday.
