'Shop with a Cop' brings together South Bay officers and kids

SAN JOSE, Calif. (KGO) -- "Shop with a Cop Silicon Valley" celebrated its 10th annual "Heroes & Helpers Holiday Shopping Spree" in San Jose Wednesday morning.

Seventy kids from Santee Elementary School were chosen from the "Readers are Leaders" campaign. Another 25 kids were chosen after living through a traumatic event, like the loss of a parent or other tragedies.

Each student gets a $150 Target gift card to shop for gifts for their families and themselves.

This is all done to humanize the people behind the badge and create a relationship between the police and the kids.
