Swimmer becomes first woman to swim from Farallon Islands to SF

SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) -- San Francisco resident Kimberley Chambers became the first woman to successfully swim from the Farallon Islands to the Golden Gate Bridge on Saturday.

She started swimming at 11:16 p.m. Friday and completed the 30-mile swim in a just over 17 hours, arriving to a group of friends and supporters.

On the boat with Chambers was Simon Dominguez, her training partner, who attempted the swim last week but fell short by three miles because of a shark.

She began swimming at 11:16 p.m. Friday.

Four men have completed the Farallon Islands to Golden Gate swim.

Last month, Chambers posted a video on Vimeo of her swimming in the Farallones, which is a 30-mile stretch of water.
