Warriors' Steph Curry brushes off 'rivalry' with Cavs star LeBron James

OAKLAND, Calif. (KGO) -- The excitement is really ramping up toward Game 1 of the NBA Finals. Wednesday was media day ahead of Thursday game. And though this year's series features the same two teams as last year -- the Golden State Warriors and Cleveland Cavaliers -- stars from both sides scoffed at the idea that this is a true rivalry.

It's not often you see Dubs star Steph Curry get irritated, at least not at a press conference. But we saw it on Wednesday when he was asked if he was trying to topple King James.

"I'm not in the business of ranking or debating who's what," he said.

Curry wasn't taking the bait at media day, saying his game isn't about comparing himself to LeBron James.

"That's not what I'm playing for to be the face of the NBA to be this or that, or to take LeBron's throne or whatever, I'm trying to chase rings," he said.

LeBron then added, "It's hard to say LeBron and Steph. If there's a smaller scale of another word for rival, the fact that we're going back-to-back is pretty unique."

"With them having all their guys, they're obviously a better team," said Draymond Green.

Green talked about what it's like to defend LeBron, with or without his current supporting cast.

"I think the one positive about our team is that we have a lot of different guys that we can throw at them and you know, over the course of the seven games series you just hope that they'll wear down at some point," he said.

And what about playing a surging Cavs team after winning a seven-game series, one that included the Warriors being down 3-1?

"We've come back from tough circumstances," said Andrew Bogut. "The last series, a lot of the pressure during the regular season with the 73 wins, so we've done a lot of good and bad things that have helped build this toughness," said Andrew Bogut.

We asked General Manager Bob Myers if he was ever worried his team might not make it back.

"We were not in a good spot," he said. "Nobody would say we were in a good spot. But it's hard to bet against this group. I think if you do, do it at your own peril."
