The cost to ride BART will go up beginning Friday, Jan. 1.
The whole system will experience a 3.4 percent increase, which was approved by the BART board last spring. The increase translates to about 10 or 15 cents for short trips.
New revenue from increased fares will fund BART's capital projects like new rail cars, a new control system and a new maintenance facility in Hayward.
This is part of BART's scheduled increases, which calls for fares to go up every even year through the year 2020.
