SAN JOSE, Calif. (KGO) -- A Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority bus caught on fire on U.S. Highway 101 in South San Jose this afternoon, sparking a small vegetation fire, according to a fire official.



San Jose fire and Cal Fire crews responded to the blaze on northbound Highway 101 before the state Highway 85 interchange around 2:50 p.m., fire Capt. Cleo Doss said.



The VTA bus driver pulled the vehicle over to the side where firefighters quickly extinguished the fire, Doss said.



Crews also put out a vegetation fire that was roughly 20-by-40 feet in size near the burning bus, Doss said.



The driver of the bus was the only occupant on the vehicle and was uninjured, Doss said.



The bus was being taken to the VTA maintenance yard before the fire started, VTA spokeswoman Bernice Alaniz said. No fires have been previously reported on this particular bus, Alaniz said.



The cause of the fire is under investigatio
