KINGS COUNTY, Calif. (KGO) -- The idea of zipping people from place to place in tubes is a step closer to reality. Billionaire Elon Musk has signed a deal to build a 5-mile test facility of his Hyperloop transportation system in Kings County, along Interstate 5.
The Hyperloop is a network of above-ground tubes that zips capsules filled with people at near supersonic speeds.
The cost to build the test facility is estimated at $100 million.
Construction is scheduled to begin next year and the Hyperloop could be up and running by 2019.
