Proposed California bill would protect families with transgender children

California could soon start providing legal refuge to displaced transgender kids and their families.

State Democrats say they plan to introduce a bill to protect parents from having their transgender children taken away from them.

It would also shield parents from being criminally prosecuted for supporting gender-affirming care.

This follows moves in states like Texas -- where the governor has directed agencies to consider removing trans kids from their families and placing them in foster care.
