2 climbers close to making history at El Capitan in Yosemite

YOSEMITE NATIONAL PARK, Calif. (KGO) -- Two climbers are about 1,500 feet away from making history at Yosemite National Park.

Kevin Jorgeson of Santa Rosa and Tommy Caldwell of Colorado woke up Tuesday morning roughly 3,000 feet above the park.

The men are 11 days into their record breaking attempt to free climb El Capitan's Dawn Wall, the largest single piece of granite in the world.

They sleep in 7 foot wide nylon tents suspended from a single point.

The pair hopes to finish as soon as this weekend. This is their third attempt.

Many have climbed Dawn Wall but the pair would be the first to climb the section using ropes only as a safeguard against falls.
